The 48-year-old cricket legend has been suffering from knee injury from quite some time now and his fans from across the world have raised concern over his illness. Jayasuriya has always been a threat to the bowlers with his fiery batting skills and a nightmare to the batsman with his left arm spins. He is going for a knee surgery at Melbourne and will be kept under observation after that for almost a month.
Sanath Jayasuriya was popularly known as Matara Marauder for his cricketing talent; he has played 110 tests and 445 ODIs; his total batting score stands at 6,973 runs in tests and 13,430 runs in one days. As a bowler, Jayasuriya is the proud owner of 98 test wickets and 323 ODI wickets. He was also the member of the Sri Lankan team who won the World Cup in 1996. He served the country as the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team from 1999 to 2003 succeeding Arjuna Ranatunga. He retired from captaincy when Sri Lanka bade goodbye in World Cup semi-finals, 2003, which took place in South Africa.
After retiring from international cricket in 2011, Jayasuriya took over as the chief selector of the Sri Lankan cricket team. But, his decisions to retired few tenured players and consecutive bad performance of the team lead to utter criticism and he resigned from his post in September 2017.
