Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi continues to plague PM Modi with comments through his social media handle demanding clarity on the Punjab National Bank fraud case in which celebrity diamond merchant Nirav Modi and his family escaped abroad with a loan of Rs. 11,300 crores. While demanding views of PM Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley on the issue, he claimed that fraud of such magnitude and scale cannot be carried out without the authority and protection of “higher levels authorities”. During a party meeting held on Sunday, he stated that the PM should talk to people about steps being taken to improve safety in banks instead of spending time with children to reduce exam related stress.
The CBI has requested Interpol to arrest 48 year old Nirav Modi who was last seen at a hotel in New York. The family of Modi along with his uncle Mehul Choksi has fled to international locations before the FBI was filed against them and is in hiding. The Cong chief has asked the PMO office to clarify about how Nirav Modi was allowed to fly abroad despite a fraud report about him. The presence of the fraudster banker at PM Modi’s Davos delegation in Switzerland has led to Rahul Gandhi terming the man as “little Modi”.
According to ministers of ruling BJP party, it is trying to clean up the financial mess created by Congress party in its regime of 70 odd years. They accused Abhishek Singhvi, one of Cong’s leaders of having business links with Nirav Modi’s family. Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman showed proof that Nirav’s firm had taken a property on lease from a firm which had Singhvi’s wife as a director. This prompted the man to term the allegations as baseless and threaten legal action even as BJP party’s ministers threatened Rahul Gandhi and others with similar action.
