Google was in talks for unveiling a digital payment app soon in India. And now it is a reality as an UPI-enabled digital payment application, Google Tez, has been rolled out in the country. In India, there has been a surge in online transactions resulting in an increase in the number of people using such applications to pay for their movie tickets, utility bills, and other transactions. The Google Tez is the foremost digital payment application that has been introduced in India by the company.

As the digital payment industry in the country is flourishing considerably, even Facebook & Amazon are longing for such payment-related products of their own over here. Google Tez is an individual payments application that is accessible on Android and iOS as well. It is backed by Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the government-supported NPCI-developed payment protocol.

Regional languages such as Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati are supported by the Google Tez app. The app’s interface appears simple and to get going the users are requested to input the bank account number and validate their ownership. The verification process is simple; the user merely has to send a text message via their registered phone number through the app’s interface.

The users will be asked by Google to add a UPI PIN after verification in order to initiate making payments. Their other friend and family members using Tez can be seen by the users and thus, can pay & request money. The app also has option “Cash mode” that enables users to transmit audio to recognize the individual close by them and receive or pay money to that individual. Google has joined forces with State Bank of India, ICICI, and HDFC Bank for the app’s backend processing.

Google, besides banks, has associated with numerous famous services so as to increase the use. Few of the launch partners are Domino’s Pizza, RedBus, DishTV, Jet Airways, and PVR Cinemas. The firm asserts that users require seeking for the Tez logo so as to locate whether their preferred services are supported. Also, Tez Scratch Cards are introduced by Google that may offer vouchers & deals for the users to attract them.

On the security front, the company says every transaction on the Tez application is protected by something known as Tez Shield to “spot a con, put off hacking, and authenticate identity. The app is developed to offer security throughout the process of payment from the user to business and reverse.”

It is a major step and we just need to wait to see how smoothly it functions.
