V Balakrishnan, the Former Infosys CFO, this week advised the Center to get individuals such as IT czars’ Azim Premji or NR Narayana Murthy or Infosys’s Nandan Nilekani for the supposedly planned job of CIO (chief information officer) below the PMO. “I believe the government must bring leaders from the tech sector to be the CIO. This will get trustworthiness to the operation. People such as Nandan had previously worked for government and conveyed the required modifications. They must also get someone of that caliber and stature to be the CIO,” Balakrishnan claimed to the media in an interview.
“People like Premji and Narayana Murthy might also be considered,” he claimed to the media. Balakrishnan claimed that this in response to a question on who might be the most appropriate applicant in the background of reports that the center is considering to make it for the job of CIO, to assist incorporate IT policies and strategies associated to different departments of the government. Nilekani is currently non-executive chairman of Infosys who in his previous role as head of UIAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is believed to be the designer of Aadhaar.
On the other hand, to make the job of CIO effectual, Balakrishnan claimed that it is essential to offer independence and political cover to the same. The job of CIO will make sure government receives enhanced returns in its tech investments, he claimed. “With more and more focus on data and digital security there requires to be a unified effort from all government departments in executing and adopting technology solutions for control,” Balakrishnan claimed.
TV Mohandas Pai, former CFO and investor at Infosys, also inclined for the post of CIO. “I completely agree that India must have a CIO below PMO. The government requires this to make a tech dream for itself,” Pai claimed.
