Flipkart, which started off its “The Big Billion Days” (TBBD) last week, claimed that it has traded 1.3 Million handsets within the first 20 Hours of the segment unlocking for trade. “The giant order book is 2x the amount of handsets Flipkart traded in the similar time at the time of Day 1 of TBBD in 2016, and exceeds the total amount of handsets traded all over the country in a sole day, both via offline and online channels, by a huge distance,” it claimed to the media in a statement.

A spokesperson of Amazon India claimed that it witnessed a huge opening of its sales on account of festive season. “We have previously witnessed a 100% rise over last Diwali, even prior to the end of Day 1. For handsets, we witnessed even bigger profit,” the spokesperson further added. The bang in trade of handsets is on account of different discounts and offers being provided on different e-commerce websites, paired with reasonably priced payment solutions such as exchange, “No Cost EMIs,” and buyback schemes.

E-commerce companies have also made an entry into exclusive partnerships with smartphone makers to roll out new handsets exclusively on their platform. Most firms have already concluded their sale this week and are expected to start one more round just prior to Diwali. ShopClues, which aims on tier-III and tier-II cities, has rolled out a feature handset on Inovu i7, its platform, with a price tag of Rs 349.

Alibaba-supported Paytm Mall that was spun off from its parent One97 Communications previously this year, claimed that it plans to sell 10 times the volume of handsets traded on a normal day. “We are providing the lowest cost on handsets and you can evaluate it with any other marketplace. We are sure that the sale of smartphone at our marketplace will develop in bounds and leaps, given the invincible schemes this festive season, claimed Amit Sinha, Chief Operating Officer of Paytm Mall.
