Passenger Safety First in 2018 Railway Budget

The Ministry of Railway is full of thorns and not roses. This is not a myth but realty as over the period of eight years, the citizens of India have seen eight ministers in the Rail Bhawan. This is enough to prove the complexity of the position. Out of the eight ministers, some quitted after a massive rail accident, some were surrounded by the corruption scandals, while some opted for greater political goals and left the chair. Whatever might be the scenario, the role of the said minister is very demanding and difficult to hold on to.

Passenger Safety First in 2018 Railway Budget

Piyush Goyal, who has been in the position of the Railway Minister for the past five months, is facing immense challenges. As per the source, the prime focus of the upcoming railway budget, 2018 will be on the safety of the passengers.

The safety record of the railway is facing a big question due to the series of accidents that took place during the reign of the previous Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu. He implemented minor changes in the system like replacing older coaches, implementing safer and new coaches, hiring competent trackmen in order to patrol the tracks manually, etc. However, stricter rules need to be implemented in order to take care of the raising issues. The trackmen are still utilized as domestic help in a few of the houses of senior railway officers. These incidents should be put to an end with immediate effect.

Ministry has taken an aim to eliminate unmanned level crossings over a period of 3 to 4 years.

Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh or RRSK was granted a corpus of Rs. 1 lakh crore by the Union Budget in 2017–2018. This has an aim of boosting the safety of the railways within 5 years by implementing safety of tracks, other safety measures, and training of staffs.
