After being shot during a clash between villagers and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in the Shopian district, a 24-year-old woman died and ten of the villagers were injured. On one hand, six of the villagers were hit by pellets whereas other four received bullet injuries. Three villagers have been immediately shifted for specialized treatment in Srinagar hospital.
After two terrorists were killed during an overnight encounter, the clash between the security forces and terrorists started in the morning at a house in the area. The incident took place on Monday evening after the CRPF and police officials received a tip-off about the terrorist hiding in Shopian’s Wanipora village.
Two terrorists were killed in the encounter, which went on all through the night. One of the terrorists has been identified as Ali, a member of Jaish-e-Mohammad, which operates from Pakistan.
After coming under intense stone attack, the security forces opened fire, said the police. The condition of the people injured during the clash is now stable, said a senior police officer.
In the last three days, this is the second time that a Civilian has died in Kashmir. Asif Iqbal, a taxi driver, was killed in Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Sunday. An army official said, he was caught between the crossfire during an anti-terror operation.
After an investigation, it was revealed that the security personnel who got the tip-off about the terrorist hiding in the area had fired the gun at Asif Iqbal thinking he is a terrorist. However, army officials are investigating the issue. A magisterial probe into the killing has been ordered by the government.
Clashes and protests have been triggered in the area because of the deaths.
